Introduction
The TUSB8041-Q1 is a four-port USB 3.0 hub. This device can provide synchronous SuperSpeed and high-speed/full-speed USB connections on the upstream port, and SuperSpeed, high-speed, full-speed, or low-speed USB connections on the downstream ports. When the upstream port is connected to an electrical environment that only supports high-speed or full-speed/low-speed connections, the SuperSpeed USB connections on the downstream ports are disabled. When the upstream port is connected to an electrical environment that only supports full-speed/low-speed connections, the SuperSpeed USB and high-speed connections on the downstream ports are disabled.
The TUSB8041-Q1 supports per-port or grouped power switching and overcurrent protection, and it also supports battery charging applications. As required by the USB host, a port power individual control hub switch powers on or off each downstream port. Similarly, when a port power individual control hub senses an overcurrent event, it only turns off the power to the affected downstream port. When power needs to be supplied to any port, a grouped hub switch turns on the power to all its downstream ports. The power to the downstream ports can only be turned off when all ports are in a state where the power can be removed. Similarly, when a grouped hub senses an overcurrent event, the power to all downstream ports will be turned off.
The TUSB8041-Q1 downstream ports can provide Battery Charging Connection Downstream Port (CDP) handshake support to provide support for battery charging applications. When the upstream port is not connected, the device also supports the Dedicated Charging Port (DCP) mode. The DCP mode supports USB battery charging and complies with the China Telecommunication Industry Standard YD/T 1591 - 2009, and can provide support for USB devices. In addition, when the upstream port is not connected, the automatic mode can provide transparent support for BC devices and devices that support the voltage divider mode charging solution.
The TUSB8041-Q1 can provide pin-strapping configuration for some features including battery charging support, and can also provide customization support for PID, VID, custom ports, and physical layer configuration through OTP ROM, I2C EEPROM, or an I2C/SMBus controlled interface. When using the I2C EEPROM or I2C/SMBus controlled interface, custom string support can also be provided.
