Introduction
The Honeywell HMC6343 is a fully integrated compass module that includes firmware for heading computation and magnetic distortion calibration. The module combines a 3-axis magnetoresistive sensor, a 3-axis MEMS accelerometer, analog and digital support circuitry, a microprocessor, and the algorithms required for heading computation. By integrating the sensor elements, processing electronics, and firmware into a 9.0mm × 9.0mm × 1.9mm LCC package, Honeywell delivers a complete, ready-to-use tilt-compensated electronic compass. This provides design engineers with the simplest solution for integrating high-volume, cost-effective compasses into binoculars, cameras, night-vision optics, laser rangefinders, antenna positioning systems, and other industrial compass applications. The HMC6343 employs Honeywell's Anisotropic Magnetoresistive (AMR) technology, which offers advantages over other magnetic sensor technologies. These sensors feature precise sensitivity and linearity, solid-state construction with very low cross-axis sensitivity, and are designed to measure the direction and magnitude of Earth's magnetic field. Honeywell's magnetic sensors are among the most sensitive and reliable low-field sensors in the industry.
