Introduction
MS2351M is a logarithmic amplifier IC primarily used for RSSI and power amplifier control, with an operating frequency range of 100MHz to 2500MHz and a typical dynamic range of 45dB. The chip is suitable for various handheld devices and other wireless equipment. Compared to discrete diode detectors, MS2351M provides a wider dynamic range and higher accuracy. In particular, it exhibits excellent temperature stability over the -40°C to 85°C temperature range.
MS2351M is essentially a voltage-responsive device, with a typical input signal range of 1.25mV to 224mV (RMS), or -58dBV to -13dBV, which is equivalent to -45dBm to 0dBm with a 50Ω load.
For ease of application, AC coupling is used internally. MS2351M provides two voltage outputs. The first is output from pin V_UP: as the input signal increases from -45dBm to 0dBm, this pin outputs 0 to 1.2V, enabling operation in measurement mode. The second is output from pin V_DN, which is the inverted output of V_UP with 2× gain. Assuming a supply voltage greater than 3.3V, as the input signal varies from minimum to maximum, V_DN output drops from 2.25V to near ground potential. This output enables the chip to operate in control mode. This application requires an external voltage applied to the VSET pin, after which V_DN can control a VGA or power amplifier.
