Introduction
TI's MSP series of ultra-low-power microcontrollers come in a wide variety. Each member device is equipped with different peripheral sets to meet the needs of various applications. This architecture, when used in conjunction with five low-power modes, is the optimal choice for extending the battery life of portable measurement applications. The device features a powerful 16-bit Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) CPU, which uses 16-bit registers and a constant generator to achieve the highest coding efficiency. The Digitally Controlled Oscillator (DCO) enables the device to wake up from a low-power mode to an active mode in less than 1µs. The MSP430AFE2x3 device is an ultra-low-power mixed-signal microcontroller that integrates three independent 24-bit Σ - Δ ADCs, a 16-bit timer, a 16-bit hardware multiplier, a USART communication interface, a watchdog timer, and 11 I/O pins. The MSP430AFE2x2 device is basically the same as the MSP430AFE2x3, with the only difference being that the former only integrates two 24-bit Σ - Δ ADCs. The MSP430AFE2x1 device is basically the same as the MSP430AFE2x3, with the only difference being that the former only integrates one 24-bit Σ - Δ ADC.
