Introduction
The INA240 is a voltage-output, current-sensing amplifier capable of sensing the voltage drop across a shunt resistor over a wide common-mode voltage range of –4V to 80V, independent of the supply voltage. The negative common-mode voltage capability allows the device to operate below ground, accommodating the flyback period of typical solenoid applications. Enhanced PWM rejection provides high-level suppression of large common-mode transients (ΔV/Δt) in systems using PWM signals, such as motor drive and solenoid control systems. This feature enables accurate current measurement without causing large transients and associated recovery ripple at the output voltage. The device operates from a single supply of 2.7V to 5.5V with a maximum supply current of 2.4mA. Four fixed gains are available: 20V/V, 50V/V, 100V/V, and 200V/V. The device family uses a zero-drift architecture with low offset, enabling current sensing with a maximum full-scale voltage drop across the shunt resistor below 10mV. All versions are rated for operation over an extended temperature range of –40°C to +125°C and are available in an 8-pin TSSOP package.
