Introduction
The CA-IS305x series devices are galvanically isolated Controller Area Network (CAN) transceivers with outstanding isolation and CAN performance for industrial applications. All devices in the series feature logic input and output buffers separated by a silicon dioxide (SiO2) insulation barrier to provide galvanic isolation. Isolation improves communication by breaking ground loops and reduces noise where large ground potential differences exist between ports. The CA-IS3050 and CA-IS3052 are available in wide-body SOIC8 and SOIC16 packages with different pin configurations; in addition, the CA-IS3050 is also offered in DUB8 and extra-wide-body SOIC8 packages. The SOIC16-WB (W) is the industry-standard isolated CAN package, while the SOIC8-WB (G) and DUB8 (U) are smaller packages that further reduce board space in addition to fewer components due to integrated isolation and a CAN with protection features. The CA-IS3050U provides galvanic isolation up to 3.75VRMS (60 seconds); the CA-IS305xG/W provides galvanic isolation up to 5VRMS (60 seconds); the CA-IS3050WG provides galvanic isolation up to 7.5VRMS (60 seconds). These transceivers support data rates up to 1Mbps and feature integrated protection for reliable communication, including current limiting, thermal shutdown, and extended ±58V fault protection on the CAN bus for devices requiring overvoltage protection. Dominant timeout detection prevents bus lockup caused by controller faults or TXD input failures. These CAN receivers also feature a ±30V input common-mode range (CMR), exceeding the -2V to +7V range specified by ISO 11898. All devices operate over a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
