Introduction
The NTE74HC138 is a 1-of-8 decoder/demultiplexer in a 16-pin plastic DIP package that decodes a 3-bit address into one of eight active-low outputs. The device features three chip select inputs — two active-low and one active-high — to facilitate demultiplexing, cascading, and chip select functions. The demultiplexing function is achieved by using the address inputs to select the desired device output, with one chip select serving as the data input while the remaining chip selects are held in their active states. The NTE74HC138 has the same pinout as the 'LS138. Device inputs are compatible with standard CMOS outputs; with pull-up resistors, they are also compatible with LSTTL outputs.
