Introduction
The DLP-RF2-Z-G RF OEM transceiver module integrates the Freescale MC13193 2.4GHz direct-sequence spread-spectrum RF transceiver chip and the Freescale MC9S08GT60 microcontroller to form an IEEE 802.15.4-compliant, ZigBee-capable short-range transceiver module. The module interfaces with user electronics via a standard 20-pin male header connector. The MC9S08GT60 microcontroller comes pre-loaded with DLP Design's serial interface packet processor firmware, which provides access to transceiver functions through simple serial calls. The interface to an external serial host microcontroller, DSP, FPGA, or similar device is implemented via a simple two-wire interface. The firmware resides at the application layer, is based on Freescale's SMAC, and provides basic access to module functionality: packet transmission/reception, transceiver configuration, EEPROM access, and more. The module can also operate without a serial host controller. Through the firmware, basic digital I/O, analog-to-digital conversion, temperature measurement, and latching/non-latching relay control are supported. The MC9S08GT60 can be reprogrammed with user-supplied firmware via a 6-pin BDM interface compatible with the P&E USB-ML-12.
