Introduction
The AMT49106 is an N-channel power MOSFET driver capable of controlling MOSFETs connected in a three-phase bridge configuration, designed for automotive applications with high-power inductive loads such as brushless DC motors. A unique charge pump regulator supplies power for MOSFET gate drive at battery voltages as low as 5.5V, and allows the AMT49106 to operate with reduced gate drive down to 4.5V. Gate drive voltage and strength are programmable to help reduce EMI issues. Bootstrap capacitors provide a supply voltage above battery for the N-channel MOSFETs, and the VCP charge pump enables high-side gate drive switching at any PWM duty cycle up to 100%. The driver provides full control of all six power MOSFETs in the three-phase bridge, supporting both square-wave commutation and sinusoidal excitation motor drive methods. Integrated cross-conduction control and optional programmable dead time protect the power MOSFETs against shoot-through. Integrated diagnostics indicate multiple internal faults, system faults, and power bridge faults, and can be configured to protect the power MOSFETs under most short-circuit conditions. For safety-critical systems, integrated diagnostic operation can be verified under serial interface control. The serial interface is used to modify programmable settings and read detailed diagnostic information. The AMT49106 is available in a 48-pin QFP package with exposed thermal pad (suffix JP), which is a lead-free package with 100% matte tin-plated lead frame.
