The LM2596S series is a family of easy-to-use fixed and adjustable step-down (buck) switching mode voltage regulators. These devices offer fixed output voltage versions of 1.2V, 3V, 5V, as well as an adjustable output version. Both versions are capable of driving a 2A load current with excellent line and load regulation. These regulators require a minimum number of external components, are simple to use, and include internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The output voltage is guaranteed to a ±3% tolerance under specified input voltage and output load conditions. The oscillator frequency is guaranteed to a ±15% tolerance. An external shutdown function is included, with a typical quiescent current of 80 μA. Self-protection features include a two-stage frequency-reducing current limit to constrain output switch current, along with a thermal shutdown function that provides complete protection under fault conditions.
