Introduction
The LM2576HV series regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all active functions required for a step-down switching regulator, capable of driving a 3A load with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltage versions of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output voltage version. These regulators require a minimum number of external components, are easy to use, and incorporate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2576HV series serves as a high-efficiency replacement for popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink size and in some cases eliminating the need for a heatsink altogether. Standard inductor series optimized for the LM2576HV are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include a guaranteed ±4% output voltage tolerance under specified input voltage and output load conditions, and an oscillator frequency tolerance of ±10%. An external shutdown function is included, with a typical standby current of 50μA. The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions. The LM2576HV is available in TO220-5 and TO263-5 packages.
