The LM2576 series regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all active functions required for a step-down switching regulator, capable of driving 3A loads with excellent line and load regulation. The series offers fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, and 12V, as well as an adjustable output version. These regulators require minimal external components, are easy to use, and incorporate internal frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator. The LM2576 series serves as a high-efficiency replacement for popular three-terminal linear regulators, significantly reducing heatsink size and, in some cases, eliminating the need for a heatsink altogether. Standard inductor families optimized for the LM2576 are available from multiple manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include a guaranteed output voltage tolerance of ±4% and an oscillator frequency tolerance of ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. The device includes an external shutdown function with a typical standby current of 50 μA. The output switch features cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown, providing comprehensive protection under fault conditions. The LM2576 is available in TO220T-5L and TO263-5L packages.
