Introduction
The TPS720-Q1 series dual-rail, low-dropout linear regulator (LDO) features excellent AC performance (PSRR, load and line transient response) with ultra-low quiescent current down to 38μA. The VBias rail that powers the LDO control circuit draws minimal current (comparable to the LDO quiescent current) and can be connected to any supply that exceeds the output voltage by 1.4V or more. The primary power path is VIN, which can be lower than VBias; this path can go as low as VOUT + VDO, helping improve efficiency in many power-sensitive applications. For example, VIN can serve as the output of a high-efficiency DC-DC buck regulator. The TPS720-Q1 supports a new feature that stabilizes the LDO output below light load when the IN pin is left floating. In this case, the light-load drive current is sourced from VBias. This feature is especially effective in energy-saving applications where the DC-DC converter connected to the IN pin is disabled, but the LDO is still required to regulate voltage under light load. The TPS720-Q1 remains stable with ceramic capacitors, and using an advanced BiCMOS process, produces a dropout voltage of only 110mV at 350mA output load current. With a 2.2μF output capacitor, the TPS720-Q1 achieves monotonic VOUT rise (overshoot limited to 3%) while limiting VIN inrush current to 100mA + ILOAD. The TPS720-Q1 uses a high-precision voltage reference and feedback loop to achieve 2% total accuracy over load, line, process, and temperature variations. The TPS720-Q1 is available in a 6-pin WSON package. Devices in this series are rated for an operating junction temperature range of TJ = -40°C to +125°C.
