Introduction
The ISL9238C is a buck-boost narrow output voltage DC charger. The device provides narrow output voltage DC charging, system bus regulation, and protection for tablets, ultrabooks, laptops, power banks, and any USB-C interface platform. Its advanced R3 technology delivers high light-load efficiency and fast transient response. In charging mode, the ISL9238C accepts input power from a wide-range DC source and safely charges up to 4 series-connected Li-ion battery packs. As a narrow output voltage DC topology charger, it also regulates the system output to a narrow DC range to provide a stable system bus voltage. System power can be supplied by the adapter, battery, or both simultaneously. The device supports operation with battery only, adapter only, or both connected simultaneously. For systems compliant with the Intel IMVP8 standard, it includes a system power monitor function that provides an analog signal representing the total platform power consumption. The ISL9238C supports reverse buck, boost, or buck-boost operation from 2 to 4 cells to the input port. The device provides SMBus/I2C serial communication, allowing many critical parameters to be programmed for customized solutions.
