Introduction
This series of voltage regulators are monolithic integrated circuits that provide all the functions of a buck switching regulator, capable of driving 2A loads with excellent line and load regulation performance. The devices offer fixed output voltages of 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and 15V, as well as adjustable output versions. With on-chip frequency compensation and a fixed-frequency oscillator, the external component count is greatly reduced, simplifying the design. Compared to common three-terminal linear regulators, these devices offer significantly higher efficiency and serve as ideal replacements, typically requiring no heatsink or only a small one. This series has been optimized for use with standard series inductors available from multiple inductor manufacturers, greatly simplifying switching power supply design. Additional features include: output voltage accuracy of ±4% and oscillator frequency accuracy of ±10% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown circuit supports standby current as low as 50μA (typical). The output switch incorporates cycle-by-cycle current limiting and thermal shutdown for full protection under fault conditions.
