The TPS254900A-Q1 is a USB charging port controller and power switch with battery short-circuit protection. This feature provides protection for the OUT, DM_IN, and DP_IN pins, which can withstand voltages up to 18V. When a battery short-circuit condition occurs, the internal MOSFET shuts off rapidly. This fast turn-off capability is critical for protecting upstream DC/DC converters, processors, or hub data lines. The TPS254900A-Q1 features a UVLO voltage as low as 3.5V, preventing the power switch from turning off during startup/shutdown. The TPS254900A-Q1 45mΩ power switch offers two selectable adjustable current limit settings, enabling port power management by switching to a lower current limit when an adjacent port carries a heavy load. This feature is essential for systems with multiple ports and limited upstream power capacity. The TPS254900A-Q1 includes a current sense output that controls the upstream power supply, maintaining 5V at the USB port even when the charging current is excessive. With the current monitor, the system can monitor load current in real time by observing the IMON voltage. The current monitor is useful for dynamic port power management.
