Introduction
The SN74HCS138-Q1 is a 3-line to 8-line decoder with one active-high output strobe (G₂) and two active-low output strobes (G₁ and G₀). When the outputs are controlled by any strobe input, all outputs are forced to the high state. When the strobe inputs do not disable the outputs, only the selected output is low while all other outputs are high. SN74HCS138-Q1 is a high speed silicon gate CMOS decoder well suited to memory address decoding or data routing applications. It contains a single 3:8 decoder. All inputs include Schmitt-triggers allowing for slow input transitions and providing additional noise margin. The SN74HCS138-Q1 has three address select inputs (A₂, A₁, and A₀). The circuit functions as a normal one-of-eight decoder. Three strobe inputs (G₂, G₁⁻, and G₀⁻) are provided to simplify cascading and to facilitate demultiplexing.
