Introduction
A varistor is a component with voltage-current characteristics that support rapid current flow under certain voltage conditions. The role of a varistor: to protect electronic components in circuits from overvoltage. When a pulse is applied to the circuit (pulse current Is, determined by pulse voltage Vs and impedance Zs), the pulse current (Is) limits the pulse voltage within the varistor's clamping voltage Vc. Due to its ability to absorb abnormal voltages and current pulses, varistors provide highly effective protection for electronic components. The varistors are used to protect components in electronic and electric circuits from overvoltage. When a pulse is applied to the circuit, pulse current Is, which is determined by pulse voltage Vs and pulse impedance Zs, flows to limit the pulse voltage to the varistor limit voltageVc. Owing to the characteristic, the varistors are extremely effective as protecting devices of electronic and electric equipment by absorption of abnormal voltages and lightening pulses.
