Introduction
The AT27BV256 is a high-performance, low-power, low-voltage 262,144-bit OTP EPROM organized as 32K×8 bits. In normal read mode operation, it requires only a single power supply in the range of 2.7V to 3.6V, making it ideal for fast portable systems powered by regulated or unregulated batteries.
Atmel's innovative design technology achieves high-speed performance comparable to 5V devices while maintaining low power consumption at a 3V supply. At VCC = 2.7V, access time for any word is less than 70 ns. At 5 MHz and VCC = 3V, typical power consumption is only 18 mW — less than one-fifth that of standard 5V EPROMs.
At 3V, standby mode supply current is typically less than 1 μA. The AT27BV256 simplifies system design and further extends battery life by eliminating the need for power supply regulation.
The AT27BV256 is offered in industry-standard JEDEC-approved OTP plastic PLCC, SOIC, and TSOP packages. All devices feature two-line control (CE, OE), giving designers the flexibility to avoid bus contention.
When VCC is 3.0V, the AT27BV256 produces TTL-level outputs compatible with standard TTL logic devices operating at VCC = 5.0V. At VCC = 2.7V, the device is compatible with the JEDEC-approved Low Voltage Battery Operation (LVBO) interface specification. The device also supports standard 5V operation, making it well suited for dual supply range systems or card products that can be inserted into both 3V and 5V hosts.
Atmel's AT27BV256 incorporates additional features to ensure high-quality, efficient production use. The Rapid™ programming algorithm reduces the time required to program the device and guarantees reliable programming. Programming time is typically only 100 μs/byte. An integrated product identification code electronically identifies the device and manufacturer. This feature is used by industry-standard programming equipment to select the appropriate programming algorithm and voltage. The AT27BV256 is programmed exactly like the standard 5V AT27C256R and uses the same programming equipment.
