Introduction
The bq5101x is an integrated advanced receiver IC suitable for wireless power transfer in portable applications. This device not only provides AC/DC power conversion but also integrates the digital control functions required to comply with the Qi v1.0 communication protocol standard. When combined with the bq500210 transmitter controller, the bq5101x can implement a complete contactless power transfer system for wireless power solutions. By using near-field inductive power transfer, the receiver coil embedded in the portable device can receive the power emitted by the transmitter coil through mutually coupled inductors. The AC signal from the receiver coil is then rectified and regulated and can be used as the power supply for down-system electronics. Global feedback is established through a mechanism next to the transmitter to stabilize the power transfer process via backscatter modulation. This feedback is established by using the Qi v1.0 communication protocol that supports applications up to 5 W. The device integrates a low-impedance fully synchronous rectifier, a low-dropout regulator, digital control, and precise voltage and current loops. The entire power stage (rectifier and LDO) uses low-resistance NMOS FET technology to ensure high efficiency and low power dissipation.
