KEMET's automotive-grade X5R dielectric SMD capacitors are designed for applications requiring reliable performance in harsh environments. Given the potentially harsh environmental conditions, automotive-grade products are subject to more stringent test protocols and inspection standards. KEMET automotive-grade capacitors meet the rigorous AEC-Q200 qualification requirements of the Automotive Electronics Council. KEMET's X5R dielectric has a maximum operating temperature of 85°C and is considered "semi-stable." The Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) classifies X5R dielectric as a Class II material. Components in this classification are fixed ceramic dielectric capacitors suitable for bypass and decoupling applications, or for discriminator circuits where high Q and stability of capacitance characteristics are not critical. X5R capacitance change over time and voltage is predictable, with minimal variation relative to ambient temperature. Over the temperature range of -55°C to +85°C, capacitance change is limited to ±15%.
