HDMI 2.1 is the most significant upgrade to the specification. Video transmission speed increases by 300%, with compression capabilities offering an additional 300% boost, bringing maximum video bandwidth to nine times that of HDMI 2.0's 18Gbps. HDMI 2.1 adds numerous additional features, including Dynamic HDR, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and Quick Media Switching. As HDMI 2.1 features roll out over the coming years, audio devices such as AV Receivers (AVR) will become incompatible. To maintain AVR compatibility, HDMI 2.1 introduces the new Enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) feature. eARC technology enables forward compatibility between AVRs and TVs while ensuring superior audio quality and greater ease of use. Compared to existing home theater audio connection methods, HDMI 2.1 eARC offers numerous improvements: it is the only forward-compatible solution, delivers lossless full audio quality, provides bandwidth approximately 30 times that of optical, offers better cross-brand interoperability, and is easier to use with simpler connectivity.
