Introduction
The ATGBICS AFBR-79EIPZ-E2-C is a parallel 40Gbps Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable (QSFP) optical transceiver module that increases port density and reduces overall system cost. This QSFP full-duplex optical module provides 4 independent transmit and receive channels, each capable of operating at 10Gbps, delivering a total bandwidth of 40Gbps with a reach of up to 70m over OM3 MMF and up to 150m over OM4 MMF.
A fiber ribbon cable with MPO/MTP connectors at both ends plugs into the QSFP module receptacle. The ribbon cable orientation is "keyed," and guide pins inside the module receptacle ensure proper alignment. The cable is typically untwisted (key-up to key-up) to ensure correct channel-to-channel alignment. The electrical connection is made via a pluggable 38-pin IPASS connector.
The module is powered by a single +3.3V supply and provides LVCMOS/LVTTL global control signals such as module present, reset, interrupt, and low-power mode. A two-wire serial interface is also provided for transmitting and receiving more complex control signals and accessing digital diagnostic information. Individual channels can be addressed and unused channels can be disabled for maximum design flexibility.
The AFBR-79EIPZ-E2-C form factor, optical/electrical connections, and digital diagnostic interface are all designed in accordance with the QSFP Multi-Source Agreement (MSA). It is designed to meet the most demanding external operating conditions, including temperature, humidity, and EMI. The module delivers a very high level of functionality and feature integration via the two-wire serial interface.
