Introduction
TI's MSP series of ultra-low-power microcontrollers come in a wide variety. Each member device is equipped with different peripheral sets to meet the requirements of various applications. This architecture, when used in conjunction with five low-power modes, is the optimal choice for extending the battery life of portable measurement applications. The device features a powerful 16-bit Reduced Instruction Set (RISC) CPU, which uses 16-bit registers and a constant generator to achieve the highest coding efficiency. The Digitally Controlled Oscillator (DCO) enables the device to wake up from the low-power mode to the active mode in less than 5µs.
The MSP430F51x2 microcontroller includes two 16-bit high-resolution timers, two USCI (USCI_A0 and USCI_B0), a 32-bit hardware multiplier, a high-performance 10-bit ADC, an on-chip comparator, a three-channel DMA, 5V-tolerant I/O, and up to 29 I/O pins.
