Introduction
The AS5215 is a redundant, contactless rotary encoder sensor capable of accurate angle measurement over a full 360° rotation range and an extended ambient temperature range of -40°C to 150°C. Based on an integrated Hall element array, the angular position of a simple two-pole magnet is converted into analog output voltages. Angle information is provided via buffered sine and cosine voltages. This approach offers maximum flexibility in system design, as it can be directly integrated into existing architectures and optimized for speed and accuracy across a wide range of applications. The device contains two independent dies in a single package, providing true redundancy. Typically, the bottom die — exposed to a slightly weaker magnetic field — is used for plausibility checking. An SSI interface for signal path configuration and a one-time programmable register block (OTP) are also implemented, allowing users to adjust the signal path gain to accommodate varying mechanical constraints and magnetic fields.
