Introduction
The SP3223E and SP3243E are RS-232 transceiver solutions targeting portable and handheld applications such as notebook computers and tablet PCs. The SP3223E and SP3243E use an internal high-efficiency charge pump, requiring only 0.1 μF capacitors when operating at 3.3V. This charge pump combined with Sipex's driver architecture enables the SP3223E/SP3243E series to deliver RS-232-compliant performance from a single supply ranging from +3.3V to +5.0V. The SP3223E is a 2-driver/2-receiver device, while the SP3243E is a 3-driver/5-receiver device, making them ideal for notebook/tablet PC and PDA applications. The SP3243E includes a complementary receiver that remains active during device shutdown to monitor ring indicator signals from external devices.
The AUTO ON-LINE feature allows the device to automatically "wake up" from shutdown when an RS-232 cable is connected and the attached peripheral is powered on. Otherwise, the device automatically shuts down, drawing less than 1 μA.
