Introduction
The ADF4002-EP frequency synthesizer is designed for use as a local oscillator in the upconversion and downconversion sections of wireless receivers and transmitters. It consists of a low noise digital phase-frequency detector (PFD), a precision charge pump, a programmable reference divider, and a programmable N divider. A 14-bit reference counter (R counter) allows the REF₍IN₎ frequency to be selected at the PFD input. When used with an external loop filter and VCO, a complete PLL can be implemented. In addition, by programming both R and N to 1, the device can be used as a standalone PFD and charge pump.
