Introduction
The S-35399A02 is a CMOS two-wire real-time clock IC featuring extremely low operating current consumption and a wide operating voltage range. With an operating voltage of 1.3V to 5.5V, this IC is suitable for a variety of power sources ranging from main power supplies to backup batteries. The 0.34μA timekeeping current consumption combined with the wide supply voltage range extends battery life. In systems operating on backup batteries, the built-in free registers can be used as backup memory for the user. After the main power is turned off, users can always retrieve the information stored in the registers prior to power-down once the voltage is restored. The IC features a clock data rate advance/retard correction function with a wide correction range to compensate for frequency deviation in the oscillator circuit. By combining this function with a temperature sensor to perform corrections based on temperature variations, highly accurate timekeeping independent of ambient temperature can be achieved. The IC also provides a 32.768 kHz clock pulse output for the sub-clock of an external microprocessor. For this output, either N-channel open-drain or CMOS output type can be selected. In addition, the IC incorporates a 24-bit binary up-counter. This counter increments once every 60 seconds from power-on, enabling users to track cumulative elapsed time of up to 30 years from initial power-on.
