Introduction
The Si515 voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) employs Skyworks Solutions' advanced PLL technology to deliver any frequency from 100 kHz to 250 MHz. Unlike conventional VCXOs, the Si515 uses a fixed crystal combined with Skyworks Solutions' proprietary synthesizer to generate any frequency within this range. This IC-based approach provides higher reliability, superior mechanical robustness, and excellent stability compared to discrete crystal resonators. In addition, the solution offers outstanding control voltage linearity and power supply noise rejection, enhancing PLL stability and simplifying low-jitter PLL design in noisy environments. The Si515 is factory-configurable to meet a wide range of user specifications, including frequency, supply voltage, output format, tuning slope, and stability. Specific configurations are factory-programmed at the time of shipment, eliminating the long lead times and NRE charges associated with custom-frequency oscillators.
