The LM2674MX regulator is a monolithic integrated circuit ideally suited for designing simple, easy-to-use step-down switching regulators (buck converters). It is capable of driving 0.5A loads with excellent line and load regulation. The device is available in an adjustable output version. Internal compensation is employed to minimize external component count and simplify power supply design. Because the LM2674 converter is a switch-mode power supply, its efficiency is significantly higher than that of common three-terminal linear regulators, particularly at higher input voltages. The LM2674MX operates at a 300kHz switching frequency, enabling the use of smaller filter components compared to lower-frequency switching regulators. It is housed in a standard SOP8 surface-mount package. Additional features include a guaranteed output voltage tolerance of ±4% and an oscillator frequency tolerance of ±15% under specified input voltage and output load conditions. An external shutdown function is also included, with a typical standby current of 50μA. Self-protection features include cycle-by-cycle current limiting on the output switch and thermal shutdown protection under fault conditions, providing comprehensive protection.
