The MAX490 is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 communications. Each device contains one driver and one receiver. The MAX490's driver features an unconstrained slew rate, enabling data rates up to 2.5Mbps. When the driver is disabled and in an idle or fully loaded state, the supply current consumption of these transceivers ranges from 120μA to 500μA. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. The driver includes short-circuit current limiting and is protected by a thermal shutdown circuit that places the driver outputs in a high-impedance state to prevent excessive power dissipation. The receiver inputs feature a failsafe function that guarantees a logic-high output when the inputs are open. The MAX490 is suitable for full-duplex communications.
