Beschreibung
This specification covers the application requirements for 180° mounted Surface Mount Device (SMD) terminal blocks. The SMD terminal block is designed to terminate solid and stranded wires of various gauges, with 5.00mm centerline spacing for 16–30 AWG wire, 3.81mm centerline spacing for 18–28 AWG wire, and 3.50mm centerline spacing for 16–28 AWG wire.
PCB terminal blocks are available in the following variants:
- Circuit positions: 2 to 12 positions
- Soldering method: SMD
- Packaging: Tape and reel
- Mounting orientation: Vertical mount
The SMD terminal block housing is made of high-temperature polyamide (UL 94 V0), and the contacts are made of nickel-tin plated copper alloy.
It is recommended to transport and store connectors in a dark environment at temperatures between -5°C and 40°C (23°F to 104°F) with a maximum relative humidity (RH) of 70%. In high-humidity environments, connectors may need to be stored in a dry location to prevent excessive moisture absorption.
Use PC boards with a maximum thickness of 2.4mm. Complete definition of the PC board layout is provided in the customer drawing.
Wires must be stripped to the appropriate length to ensure correct insertion depth into the connector. Use a screwdriver to open and close the screw clamp, insert the wire into the wire hole until the insulation is flush with the housing at the wire hole opening, manually tighten the screw to the recommended torque specified in the customer drawing, pull back on the wire to verify secure retention, and check that no wire strands are visible outside the terminal block.
The terminal block connector consists of a screw-actuated mechanism housed within the body. When a stripped wire is inserted into the connector and the screw is tightened, the screw activates a clamp that presses the wire against the terminal.
For SMD connectors, a sufficient volume of solder paste should be applied to ensure an ideal solder fillet. Testing and consultation with the solder paste supplier are recommended to determine the exact quantity required. Screen printing of solder paste is generally not recommended due to the limited amount of paste that can be deposited.
