The CY7B9234 SMPTE HOTLink Transmitter and CY7B9334 SMPTE HOTLink Receiver connect to the SMPTE Scramble Controller (CY7C9235) and SMPTE Descramble/Framing Controller (CY7C9335) to form a four-chip set that transmits uncompressed SMPTE-259M encoded video over high-speed serial links (fiber optic, coaxial cable, and twisted pair). SMPTE HOTLink supports SMPTE-259M-CD standard data rates of 270 and 360 Mbps. 8-bit or 10-bit user data or protocol information is loaded into the SMPTE HOTLink Transmitter and encoded in DVB mode. Serial data is shifted out from three differential positive ECL (PECL) serial ports at a bit rate 10 times the byte rate. The SMPTE HOTLink Receiver accepts the serial bit stream at its differential line receiver inputs and recovers the timing information required for data reconstruction using a fully integrated PLL clock synchronizer. The bit stream is deserialized, decoded in DVB mode, and checked for transmission errors. Recovered bytes are presented in parallel to the receiving host together with the byte-rate clock. The 8B/10B encoder/decoder can be disabled in SMPTE or DVB systems where the transmitted data has already been encoded or scrambled. I/O signals support seamless interfacing with asynchronous FIFOs (such as CY7C42X) and clocked FIFOs (such as CY7C44X). Built-in self-test mode generators and checkers enable system diagnostic verification of the transmitter, receiver, and interconnecting link. SMPTE HOTLink devices are well suited for a wide range of video applications, including video distribution equipment, video recorders, video editing equipment, and video routers.
