Introduction
The ATECC608B is a high-security cryptographic device in the CryptoAuthentication family, combining hardware-based key storage with hardware cryptographic accelerators to implement various authentication and encryption protocols. The device offers security enhancements over the ATECC608A while maintaining full backward compatibility. All configuration settings, commands, packages, and features of the ATECC608A remain available in the ATECC608B, making migration from the ATECC608A straightforward. For new designs, it is recommended to use the ATECC608B directly. For designs currently using the ATECC508A or ATECC608A that are being upgraded, migration to the ATECC608B is recommended. For designs not planned for upgrade, it is recommended to evaluate whether the design could benefit from the enhanced security of the ATECC608B.
Features
- Cryptographic coprocessor with hardware-based secure key storage, protecting up to 16 keys, certificates, or data.
- Hardware support for asymmetric signing, verification, and key agreement, including ECDSA, ECDH, with NIST standard P256 elliptic curve support.
- Hardware support for symmetric algorithms, including SHA-256 and HMAC hashing with off-chip context save/restore, AES-128 encryption/decryption, and Galois field multiplication for GCM.
- Network key management support, including single-pass PRF/HKDF computation for TLS 1.2 and 1.3, ephemeral key generation and key agreement in SRAM, and encryption of small messages with fully protected keys.
- Secure boot support, including full ECDSA code signature verification, optional digest/signature storage, optional disabling of communication keys prior to secure boot, and message encryption/authentication against on-board attacks.
- Internal high-quality NIST SP 800-90A/B/C random number generator.
- Two high-endurance monotonic counters.
- 72-bit serial number.
- Two interface options: high-speed single-wire interface and 1 MHz standard I2C interface.
- IO levels of 1.8V to 5.5V; supply voltage of 2.0V to 5.5V.
- Two temperature ranges: standard industrial -40°C to +85°C; extended industrial -40°C to +100°C.
- Sleep current less than 150 nA.
- Multiple package options available.
Applications
- IoT network terminal key management and exchange
- Small message and personally identifiable information data encryption
- Secure boot and protected download
- Ecosystem control and anti-cloning
