Introduction
The SN75DP129 is a dual-mode DisplayPort-input to TMDS (Transition-Minimized Differential Signaling) output converter. The TMDS output incorporates an integrated level shifter compliant with Digital Visual Interface 1.0 (DVI) and High-Definition Multimedia Interface 1.3 (HDMI) standards. The SN75DP129 supports a maximum data rate of 2.5 Gbps, enabling resolutions beyond 1920 x 1200 or 12-bit color depth HDTV at 1080p (progressive scan).
The integrated active I²C buffer isolates the source system's capacitive load from the sink and connecting cable. This isolation improves system-wide signal integrity and provides greater design margin for DVI/HDMI compliance testing within the source system.
A logic block is incorporated in the SN75DP129 to assist with TMDS connector identification. By using the I²C_EN pin, this logic block can be enabled to indicate that the converted port is an HDMI port, thereby legitimately supporting HDMI content.
These devices have limited built-in ESD protection. During storage or handling, pins should be shorted together or the devices placed in conductive foam to prevent electrostatic damage to MOS gates.
