Introduction
The TUSB322I device can implement the Configuration Channel (CC) logic required by the Type-C ecosystem on the USB Type-C port. The TUSB322I device uses the CC pins to determine the connection status of the port and the cable direction, as well as perform role detection and Type-C current mode control. The TUSB322I device can be configured as a Downstream Facing Port (DFP), an Upstream Facing Port (UFP), or a Dual Role Port (DRP), making it an ideal choice for any application. According to the Type-C specification, the TUSB322I device will be alternately configured as a DFP or a UFP. The CC logic block monitors the pull-up or pull-down resistors on the CC1 and CC2 pins to determine when a USB port is connected, the direction of the cable, and the detected role. The CC logic determines whether the Type-C current mode is default, medium, or high based on the detected role. This logic determines whether the port is successfully connected in UFP and DRP modes by implementing VBUS detection. When an active cable is detected, the TUSB322I will power VCONN. The device can operate over a wide power supply range and has low power consumption. The TUSB322I device can operate in the industrial temperature range.
The USB Type-C ecosystem operates around a small form factor connector and cable that is flippable and reversible. Due to the nature of the connector, a scheme is required to determine the connector orientation. Additional schemes are required to determine when a USB port is attached and the acting role of the USB port (DFP, UFP, DRP), as well as to communicate Type-C current capabilities. These schemes are implemented over the CC pins according to the USB Type-C specifications. The TUSB322I device provides Configuration Channel (CC) logic for determining USB port attach and detach, role detection, cable orientation, and Type-C current mode. The TUSB322I device also contains several features such as VCONN sourcing, USB3.1 mux direction control, mode configuration, and low standby current, all of which make the TUSB322I device ideal for source or sinks in USB2.0 or USB3.1 applications.
