Introduction
The TPS54540B-Q1 is a 42V, 5A step-down regulator with an integrated high-side MOSFET. Per ISO 7637, the device can withstand load dump pulses up to 65V. Current mode control provides simple external compensation and flexible component selection. Low-ripple pulse skip mode reduces no-load supply current to 146μA. When the enable pin is pulled low, shutdown supply current drops to 2μA. The UVLO is internally set at 4.3V but can be raised using an external resistor divider on the enable pin. The device internally controls the output voltage startup ramp to manage the startup process and eliminate overshoot. The wide switching frequency range enables optimization of either efficiency or external component size. Output current is cycle-by-cycle limited. Frequency foldback and thermal shutdown protect internal and external components from damage under overload conditions. The TPS54540B-Q1 is available in an 8-pin thermally enhanced HSOP PowerPAD package.
