R74 125°C capacitors are constructed with metallized polypropylene film and tinned wire radial leads. The radial leads are electrically welded to the metallized ends of the capacitor winding. The capacitor is encapsulated in a self-extinguishing, solvent-resistant plastic case using thermosetting resin material compliant with UL 94V-0. Two different winding configurations are used depending on the voltage rating. Automotive-grade devices meet the stringent AEC-Q200 qualification requirements of the Automotive Electronics Council.

Typical applications include electronic lighting such as automotive headlamps and ballasts, as well as pulse applications under conditions of high AC voltage, high current, and high ambient temperature. Not suitable for across-the-line applications (see suppression capacitors).
