The HCPL-5120 contains a GaAsP LED optically coupled to an integrated circuit with a power output stage. This device is ideally suited for driving power IGBTs and MOSFETs used in motor control inverter applications. The wide operating voltage range of the output stage provides the drive voltage required for gate-controlled devices. The voltage and current provided by this optocoupler make it ideal for directly driving IGBTs rated up to 1200 V/100 A. For higher-rated IGBTs, the HCPL-5120 can be used to drive a discrete power stage, which in turn drives the IGBT gate.
