Description
The Smart Power Relay E-1048-8I is an electronically controlled load disconnection relay with three functions in a single unit:
- Electronic relay
- Electronic overcurrent protection
- Status indication
The 7-pin INLINE version is designed for use with various E-T-A terminal blocks, such as the 17-P10-Si. Current ratings are available from 1A to 10A. The operating voltage range of 9...32V DC allows connection of 12V DC and 24V DC loads.
To remotely switch and protect loads, multiple discrete components previously had to be connected together:
- An electromechanical relay, control cable, and integrated contacts for closing the load circuit
- An additional protective element (circuit breaker or fuse) for cable or equipment protection
- A device for current measurement (shunt)
The E-1048-8I now integrates all these functions into a single unit, reducing the number of connections in the circuit and lowering the risk of faults.
Caractéristiques
- Integrated power electronics provide wear-free switching, insensitive to shock and vibration.
- The control power required to switch loads is only a fraction of that needed by electromechanical relays. This is critical for battery-buffered load circuits where control must be maintained even when the generator is offline.
- Ultra-low quiescent current consumption of less than 1mA is absolutely essential for battery-buffered applications.
- In the event of overload or short circuit, the load circuit is disconnected; the trip curve also applies to smaller motor loads.
- Continuous monitoring of the load circuit for open-circuit conditions.
- The device also provides the user with a 0 to 5V analog voltage proportional to the load current for further processing of the actual current value in a power management system. This voltage signal can also be used to build control circuits or to disconnect the device at low load current values via external control.
- For load switching and monitoring at 10A and above, multiple units can be connected in parallel. Even power distribution between units must be ensured through symmetrical design of the supply cables (length and cross-sectional area).

Applications
The E-1048-8I is suitable for all 12V DC or 24V DC circuit applications where switching, protection, or monitoring of solenoid valves, motors, or lamp loads is required:
- Road vehicles (commercial vehicles, buses, special-purpose vehicles)
- Rail vehicles
- Marine industry (ships, boats, yachts, etc.)
This power relay is also suitable for industrial applications (process control, machine manufacturing, engineering) as an electronic coupling relay between PLCs and 12V DC or 24V DC loads.
