KEMET's commercial "L" series SMT capacitors feature X5R dielectric and tin/lead terminations, designed to meet the demands of critical applications requiring tin/lead termination metallization. KEMET's tin/lead plating process is designed to meet the minimum 5% lead content requirement and addresses concerns regarding more robust and reliable leaded termination systems. As the majority of the electronics industry transitions toward RoHS compliance, KEMET continues to supply tin/lead terminated products for industrial applications, ensuring customers have a stable and long-term supply source.
KEMET's X5R dielectric, with a maximum operating temperature of 85°C, is considered "semi-stable." The Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) classifies X5R dielectric as a Class II material. Components of this type are fixed ceramic dielectric capacitors suitable for bypass and decoupling applications, or for discriminator circuits where high Q and stability of capacitance characteristics are not critical. X5R capacitance change over time and voltage is predictable, with minimal variation relative to ambient temperature. Over the temperature range of -55°C to +85°C, capacitance change is limited to ±15%.
