Carbon composition resistors exhibit excellent surge and high-frequency performance due to the bulk nature of their resistive element. Unlike wirewound and film resistors, they have no resistance wire winding and no deposited film that can rupture under overload pulses. Resistors found to be out of tolerance prior to resistance measurement should be conditioned in a dry oven at 100°C ± 5°C for 96 ± 4 hours.
