Introduction
The MM54C164/MM74C164 shift registers are monolithic complementary MOS (CMOS) integrated circuits built with N-channel and P-channel enhancement mode transistors. These 8-bit shift registers feature gated serial inputs and a clear function. Each register bit is a D-type master-slave flip-flop. A HIGH on one input enables the other input, which determines the state of the flip-flop. Data is shifted serially into and out of the 8-bit register on the positive transition of the clock pulse. Clear is independent of the clock and is accomplished by a LOW on the clear input. All inputs are protected against electrostatic discharge.
