The AS5048 is an easy-to-use 360° angular position sensor with 14-bit high-resolution output. The IC measures the absolute position of a rotating magnet's angle through Hall sensors, an ADC, and digital signal processing. The absolute position of the magnet is directly available via PWM output and can be read through a standard SPI or high-speed I²C interface. The AS5048A features an SPI interface, the AS5048B features an I²C interface, and both devices provide PWM output. Zero position can be programmed via SPI or I²C commands, simplifying overall system assembly by eliminating the need for mechanical alignment of the magnet's zero position. The sensor tolerates misalignment, air gap variations, temperature changes, and external magnetic fields. This robustness and wide temperature range (-40°C to 150°C) make the AS5048 well suited for rotational angle sensing in demanding industrial and medical environments. Multiple AS5048 ICs can be daisy-chained for serial data readout. An internal voltage regulator allows the AS5048 to operate from a 3.3V or 5V supply.
