Introduction
The ADuM4137 is a single-channel gate driver optimized for IGBT driving. iCoupler technology provides isolation between the input signal and the output gate driver. The chip-level transformer also provides isolated communication of control information between the high-voltage and low-voltage sides of the chip. Device status information is accessible via a dedicated fault output. The ADuM4137 provides isolated fault reporting for overcurrent events, remote temperature overtemperature events, UVLO, and TSD.
The ADuM4137 integrates an overcurrent detection feature to protect the IGBT during overcurrent events. Under fault conditions, split-emitter overcurrent detection of an overcurrent fault triggers a high-speed two-level turn-off.
The ADuM4137 provides a Miller clamp control signal for an external MOSFET, delivering reliable IGBT turn-off when the gate voltage falls below 2.0 V (typical) and above GND₂ under single-supply operation. Single-supply secondary power can be used with or without the Miller clamp circuit.
If the gate voltage does not rise above the internal threshold (VvL) within the allowed time after turn-on (tDVL), the low gate voltage detection circuit triggers a fault. This circuit detects IGBT device failures such as gate short circuits or other conditions causing weak drive.
The secondary-side falling-edge UVLO is set to the 11.24 V threshold level commonly used for IGBTs.
The ADuM4137 supports field temperature programming. Two temperature sensor pins enable isolated monitoring of system temperature on the IGBT, with diode gain and offset measured via an SPI bus on the primary side of the device. Values are stored in EEPROM located on the secondary side. In addition, specific voltage offsets, temperature detection reporting frequency, and key delays can also be programmed.
In the absence of faults, the ASC pin on the secondary side of the ADuM4137 allows the driver to be started from the secondary side.
