Introduction
The AD8230 is a low drift, differential sampling, precision instrumentation amplifier. Its auto-zero feature reduces offset voltage drift to below 50 nV/°C. The AD8230 is well suited for thermocouple and bridge sensor applications. It features a high CMRR with a minimum value of 110 dB, enabling rejection of line noise in measurements where the sensor is located far from the instrument. The 16 V rail-to-rail common-mode input range accommodates noisy environments where ground potential varies by several volts. Low-frequency noise is kept to a minimum of 3 μV p-p, making the AD8230 ideal for applications requiring extremely high DC accuracy. In addition, the AD8230 maintains high performance over the extended industrial temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
Gain is set using two external resistors. With matched external resistors, the AD8230 achieves significantly better gain stability than instrumentation amplifiers that use a single resistor for gain setting. In addition to gain settings ranging from 10 to 1000, users can also adjust the output offset voltage.
The AD8230 offers a rich set of features and is easy to use. Its auto-zero topology greatly reduces the input and output transients typically associated with commutating auto-zero or chopper instrumentation amplifiers. It operates from ±4 V to ±8 V (+8 V to +16 V) supplies and is available in an 8-lead SOIC package.
