With up to 20 dedicated general-purpose pins and up to 12 analog inputs, users have the flexibility to implement external application-specific functions such as serial communication, safety-related functions, or auxiliary functions for LEDs, buttons, displays, and more. Internally, the XMC1404 and 6EDL7141 are interconnected to ensure proper operation. These interconnections provide SPI communication between the two for 6EDL7141 configurability and status reporting; 6 PWM signals for motor driving; an nFAULT reporting pin to notify the microcontroller of any potential faults on the power side; a driver enable pin; and a dual brake path brake pin that is also externally accessible. The 6EDL7141 smart gate driver provides both a flexible gate drive scheme and the necessary robustness and protection features to prevent failures in demanding drive systems. The gate driver outputs are strategically laid out to support optimal routing practices for the power circuit. Within the 6EDL7141, independent charge pumps for the low-side and high-side gate drivers support 100% duty cycle and low supply voltage operation. The gate driver supply voltage is programmable to one of the following levels: 7V, 10V, 12V, or 15V. Furthermore, the slew rate of the drive signals can be programmed with fine granularity.
