Introduction
The High Current Reflowable Thermal Protection Mini (HCRTP-MINI) device is a low-resistance, robust surface-mount thermal protector. It features a set disconnect temperature and can be installed using reliable lead-free SMD assembly and reflow processes.
The new HCRTP-MINI device, recently added to the RTP product family, helps meet the stringent environmental, lifetime, and reliability requirements of automotive and industrial applications, including resistance to shock, vibration, thermal cycling, and humidity. In actual applications, if the internal junction temperature of the HCRTP-MINI device exceeds its specified disconnect temperature, the device will open. Temperature rise can occur for various reasons, one of which is component failure (e.g., when using power components such as power FETs, capacitors, resistors, TRIACs, etc.). The disconnect temperature of the HCRTP-MINI device is selected such that the device will not open within the normal operating range of the components, but will open during a thermal runaway event and before the melting temperature of typical lead-free solder is reached.
