Introduction
The SP485 is a low-power transceiver for RS-485 and RS-422 communications. The IC contains one driver and one receiver. The SP485's driver slew rate is not limited, allowing data transmission rates up to 2.5Mbps. When the driver is unloaded or fully loaded and disabled, the supply current of these transceivers ranges from 120μA to 900μA. All devices operate from a single 5V supply. The driver features short-circuit current limiting and is protected against excessive power dissipation by a thermal shutdown circuit that forces the driver outputs into a high-impedance state. The receiver inputs are fail-safe, ensuring a logic-high output if the inputs are open-circuited. The SP485 is designed for half-duplex applications.
