Introduction
MIC39500 and MIC39501 are 5A low dropout linear voltage regulators capable of delivering low voltage, high current outputs with minimal external components. Utilizing Micrel's proprietary Super Beta PNP pass element, the MIC39500/1 provides ultralow dropout voltage (typically 400 mV at 5A) and low ground current (typically 70 mA at 5A).
The MIC39500/1 is ideal for PC add-in cards requiring conversion from standard 2.5V or 3.3V to newer, lower core voltages. With a maximum guaranteed dropout voltage of 500 mV under all operating conditions, the MIC39500/1 can supply 2.5V from supplies as low as 3V, or 1.8V from a 2.5V supply. The device also features fast transient response, making it suitable for heavy load switching applications. The regulator requires only a 47 μF output capacitor to maintain stability and achieve fast transient response.
